CERTIFICATION

Flag State administrations worldwide rely on classification societies to verify the implementation of international and national regulations on marine safety and environmental protection.  These include regulations set by the IMO (International Maritime Organization) and ILO (International Labour Organization).
   

Over 160 Flag State administrations trust Bureau Veritas to perform surveys and audits on ships and offshore units on their behalf. Owners and operators seek assurance that their vessels will be certified to national and international standards. But compliance does not end the day certification is achieved. RECOGNITION BY FLAG STATE ADMINISTRATIONS

We are recognized by over 160 Flag State administrations as an official certification body (recognized organization). From load lines verification and tonnage measurement to the compliance verification of the requirements related to safety of life at sea and maritime pollution prevention, our network of expert surveyors is qualified and prepared to perform the associated certification activities.

MARPOL SURVEY AND CERTIFICATION

The goal of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) is to prevent and minimize ocean pollution caused by vessels. Over 130 national administrations delegate authority to Bureau Veritas to verify MARPOL compliance.

SOLAS SURVEY AND CERTIFICATION

The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) provides regulations pertaining to all aspects of ship safety. Bureau Veritas’ global network of surveyors performs surveys and certification from ship construction through end of service life.

INTERNATIONAL SAFETY MANAGEMENT SERVICES (ISM)

The ISM Code was created to improve safety and prevention of pollution at sea. Bureau Veritas has over 180 qualified lead auditors worldwide, performing ISM audits and issuing the corresponding certificates.

INTERNATIONAL SHIP AND PORT FACILITY SECURITY (ISPS)

The ISPS Code aims to establish an international framework for detecting and assessing security threats affecting ships or port facilities used in trade. Around 100 Flag State authorities have given Bureau Veritas Recognized Security Organization (RSO) status for approving Ship Security Plans (SSPs), performing audits, and issuing International Ship Security Certificates (ISSCs).

MARITIME LABOUR CONVENTION (MLC)

Commercial vessels of 500 GT and above which trade internationally, are required by the MLC Convention to carry a MLC certificate and a Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance (DMLC). Bureau Veritas’ worldwide network and experience enable us to support you to meet all your MLC obligations.

PORT STATE INSPECTIONS

Port State Control (PSC) inspectors verify compliance with the requirements of international conventions of foreign ships entering ports. Bureau Veritas helps you ensure a smooth inspection flow and reduce detention risks via a range of port inspection services including our handy PSC Ready app.
