QUALITATIVE & QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS

QUALITATIVE & QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS

The International Maritime Organization defines risk as the probability or frequency of a defined hazard, combined with the severity of its consequences. In shipping, effectively managing risks can safeguard personnel, reduce environmental impact and damage to ships, and preserve business continuity and reputation. Qualitative and quantitative analyses enable shipowners to develop appropriate and cost-effective measures that mitigate all types of shipping-related risks.

Every day, ships are confronted by a variety of threats and hazards—collision, technical failure, fire, explosion, cargo loss, oil spills, safety breaches, cyberattacks, and more. Risk management in shipping involves preventing these threats from occurring, or reducing risk to as low a level as possible. To mitigate risks, shipowners must understand the threats they face, empowering them to make cost-effective decisions that satisfy regulatory and corporate criteria.

OUR OFFER

HAZID AND HAZOP STUDIES

Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore performs a structured, systematic review of your processes and/or asset. Our aim is to help you identify all hazards that have the potential to cause a major accident, and harm to your staff or equipment. We also highlight prevention and mitigation techniques that can be implemented to avoid major accidents.

QUALITATIVE RISK ASSESSMENT (QRA)

Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshoreevaluates overall risk for your asset and activities carried out at your facility. Using the QRA methodology, we add up the risks identified during various hazard and risk assessment studies. We then use QRA conclusions to develop cost-effective measures related to plant layout, safety design, or other risk-reduction measures.

AS LOW AS REASONABLY PRACTICABLE (ALARP)

Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore compares calculated risks to relevant risk criteria established by local licensing authorities, national regulations, corporate guidance, and well-established industry standards. We then provide recommendations on whether your risks must be reduced to an ALARP level.

SIF AND SECE

Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore evaluates your risks against traditional risk-reduction measures, including SIF (Safety Environmental Function) and SECE (Safety and Environmental Critical Element). These measures have performance standards that are defined by specific studies.
