CYBER SAFETY & SECURITY

CYBER SAFETY & SECURITY

Modern ships are increasingly connected to on-shore via networks. This increased connectivity makes onboard systems especially vulnerable to cyberattacks. Cyber safety and security enable ship operators to assess and manage the risks to which their onboard systems –and more widely, ship and company- are exposed.

Every day, ship’s on-board systems communicate sensitive information to and from shore. Connected systems offer many benefits, such as providing real-time data on the ship’s operation or enabling remote access for maintenance. However, a single security breach can expose volumes of private data. To prevent unauthorized access, ship operators must continuously define their security needs, and assess the reliability of their security solutions.

CONTEXT ESTABLISHMENT

During this first phase, Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore collects all relevant information required to define risk analysis scope and risk acceptance criteria. By establishing context, we can determine your security needs in relation to your business objectives and current maturity on security activities.

RISK IDENTIFICATION

Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore collects the input data needed to identify risks. We assess your asset inventory, identify threats, vulnerabilities, and existing controls, and we define threat scenarios and related consequences.

RISKS ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION

Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore uses the threat scenarios identified in the risk identification phase. During this phase, we assess consequences and impact, and the likelihood of each scenario. The risk acceptance criteria defined in the first phase determines whether the level of risk is acceptable, or requires specific treatment.

RISK TREATMENT

For risks that require treatment, Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore provides clients with several options, such as modification, retention, avoidance or sharing. For unacceptable risks, we provide risk mitigations either by decreasing the occurrence of the threat, or by reducing consequences thanks to customized organizational and/or technical measures - always aiming at bringing the level of risk to an acceptable result.
