Overview of Detailed Assessment of ASC Feed Ingredients
The content was excerpted from the workshop organized by BVC on November 12, 2024.
The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) has established specific requirements for the detailed assessment of feed ingredients used in ASC-certified aquaculture operations. This detailed assessment aims to ensure the sustainability and responsible sourcing of feed ingredients.
The key elements of the detailed assessment include:
- Regarding the 3 aspects: legal, social, and environmental, what are the necessary competencies required for the team or individual to conduct due diligence for the manufacturer/raw material?
- For the Risk Assessment Process (step 3 - Appendix 7), what information should businesses refer to in order to determine the likelihood and level of impact (low/medium/high) of the data collected from the manufacturer?
- What is the MSL (Meal and Silage Limitation) calculated for all whole fish ingredients used in all aquafeed products produced by the UoC, regardless of species or whether the products are ASC-certified or not?
- If a factory produces multiple types of feed but only wants to obtain ASC certification for one or a few products, is this possible?
- For the initial certification audit in 2025, if the business has not yet completed the due diligence or the due diligence is not met, can the business still use these ingredients in aquafeed? And will they be prohibited from using them in subsequent audits?
