CE Marking

CE Marking

Your passport to the World’s Largest Market.

What is CE marking?

By affixing the CE marking, the manufacturer, or its representative, or the importer assures that the item meets all the essential requirements of all applicable EU directives.

Examples of European Directives requiring CE marking include pressure equipment, toy safety, medical devices, machinery, low-voltage equipment, R&TTE, and Electromagnetic compatibility.

There are about 22 Directives requiring CE marking.

The manufacturer, whether established inside or outside the Community, is the person ultimately responsible for the conformity of the product with the provisions of the relevant Directive(s) and for the affixing of the CE marking. The manufacturer may appoint an authorized representative established in the Community to act on his behalf. The person responsible for placing the product on the market may, exceptionally, be deemed to have assumed the responsibilities of the manufacturer

  • The CE marking symbolizes the conformity of the product with the applicable Community requirements imposed on the manufacturer.
  • The CE marking affixed to products is a declaration by the person responsible that:
  1. the product conforms to all applicable Community provisions, and
  2. the appropriate conformity assessment procedures have been completed.
  • The CE marking is mandatory and must be affixed before any product subject to it is placed on the market and put into service, save where specific directives require otherwise.

Where products are subject to several directives, which all provide for the affixing of the CE marking, the marking indicates that the products are presumed to conform to the provisions of all these directives.

A product may not be CE marked, unless it is covered by a directive providing for its affixing.

Complying with CE marking is a critical issue when looking to launch your product on the global marketplace. Understanding the myriad of regulations that affect your product in your target market is key to this success. Our assessment process begins with understanding where your product(s) is to be marketed, who will use the product, what are your quality expectations? The responses help us to identify the regulatory barriers, the Directives, Standards, your conformity assessment route options, etc… and to develop a rationalized Compliance plan for your product range with your target markets within, as well as outside, the EU.
