Bureau veritas successfully supported Vietnam's first garment factory to achieve LEED O&M Gold

Apr. 23 2024

In August 2022, Bureau Veritas carried out a Feasibility Study at Pearl Global Bac Giang Factory to assess the current conditions of the factory’s buildings and technical systems against the requirements of LEED O&M certification. This includes evaluating the factory’s energy and water consumption, indoor air quality, existing O&M plans and policies, waste management practices, and other sustainability criteria to determine if the factory meets the LEED requirements or if improvements are needed. The Feasibility Study allowed Bureau Veritas to identify potential opportunities and challenges faced by the factory for achieving LEED O&M certification, as well as actions to be taken toward energy and water efficiency, sustainable practices and policies, and other essential aspects, especially taking into account the factory’s constraints of budget, timeline, and existing facilities.

After more than 1 year of implementation, in April 2024, Pear Global Vietnam officially achieved LEED O&M Gold certification. This is the first garment factory in Vietnam to achieve this certification.

Mr. Kulbhushan Aggarwal, Finance Manager of Pearl Global Vietnam stated: “LEED is a global certification and our vision is to go for the best sustainable practices in the world and our buyers also like to work with the vendors who are having the best certification in the terms of sustainability and placeability. Also, we want to build for the future so we know that anytime later on it could be mandatory also by the buyers. Although right now it's not mandatory but we want to stay ahead of the game.

Follow Bureau Veritas' instructions, we quickly implemented the required actions. The more important thing is we achieved within the target timelines. That is also very important for us because we keep on telling our buyers and our customers that we would release certificate certified in the first quarter of this year - and we made it."

The LEED standard is an international symbol of excellence in the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED changes the way buildings are designed, built and operated to create healthy, environmentally and socially responsible living environments that improve quality of life. Building owners and operators can achieve significant benefits with LEED, such as reduced energy and water consumption, reduced operating and maintenance costs, reduced carbon dioxide emissions, improved user satisfaction. In addition, LEED-certified projects attract customers who prioritize sustainability, thereby improving market access and competitiveness.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, General Director of Bureau Veritas said: “Bureau Veritas puts sustainability at the heart of its mission, helping its clients meet the challenges of quality, health and safety, environmental protection and social responsibility. With its green line of services and solutions,  Bureau Veritas partners with clients in their efforts to improve their performance and demonstrate the transparency and trustworthiness of their actions. Supporting Pearl Global to achieve LEED O&M Gold certification is a testament to successful cooperation, joining hands with the Vietnam government in achieving sustainable development."
