With a growing body of scientific literature relating to the presence of textile fiber fragments in aquatic and atmospheric environments, associated emission routes, and potential effects, we as an industry have become more aware of the issue of fiber fragmentation and its potential as a serious environmental polluter. There are worries that their physical presence and propensity to act as carriers for other dangerous substances are endangering human health in addition to harming wildlife and ecosystems.

As a signatory, Bureau Veritas CPS collaborates with The Microfibre Consortium (TMC) to increase understanding by providing research data on fiber fragmentation, reducing fiber fragmentation through the adoption of mitigation measures, accelerating progress through participation in task groups, and scaling up global adoption.

WHAT IS MICROFIBER TESTING?

The Microfibre Consortium Test Method, a test to measure the amount of fiber fragment release into water after home laundering with the ability to compare levels of fragment release between various products, has been accredited for Bureau Veritas CPS laboratories in Guangzhou (China), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), and Taiwan.
